I=f(O) – identity is a function of otherness – is my most ambitious formula to date, taking us straight into the deep beauty structure of semiosis, where sign production is abstracted to a relational process between forms. CS Peirce taught us that man itself is a sign. He also taught us that the dicisign – or proposition – is the most quintessential of signs. I=f(O) attempts to uncover the proposition of man – and beyond.
Reminiscent of Rimbaud’s “Je est un autre” but surpassing the poetic with more clarity I=f(O) attains a level where forms come to life through their (activated) relation to other forms. True signs in actu. Repeating patterns – or habits – of position and directionality – or sense.
